Silver print photograph glued on white cork board further glued to thick black board. Photo 7 5/8" x about 9 ½" of "TW-WAH-Y 6 MO Old / COPYRIGHT BY L. V. MC WHORTER." From the internet is the following: L. V. McWhorter (Lucullus Virgil McWhorter, 1860-1944), a renowned historian and advocate for Native American rights, and Tw-wah-y, a six-month-old Yakama infant featured in his 1913 book The Crime Against the Yakimas. McWhorter and Tw-Wah-Y . Tw-Wah-Y: Also referred to as Christianized "Flora", Tw-wah-y was a six-month-old Yakama child photographed in a traditional cradleboard. McWhorter included a famous photograph of her in his writings to document and humanize the Native American families impacted by federal policies, such as the Wapato irrigation canal issues. . L. V. McWhorter: An Ohio-born rancher who moved to Washington State in 1903 and integrated deeply with the Yakama Nation. He became an adopted member of the tribe, a fierce mediator with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and an essential historian who preserved Indigenous stories in works like Yellow Wolf: His Own Story. Except for a tiny cut on the top edge, the photo is in fine condition. Frankly, I don't know when this print was made and if by McWhorter. What I can tell you is that it is superb.
