Gene W. Baade Books on the West specializes in non-fiction used and collectable books on the American and Canadian West. We also have a good stock of modern first editions, theology, and miscellaneous material in many fields. Located in Renton, Washington, we have been selling books since 1988. Gene was inspired to go into bookselling because of his love of books and history. Great Western booksellers like Jeff Dykes and Gene Hollingsworth influenced him. Raised in the old Cherokee Strip of Oklahoma, Gene's imagination was stirred by the beauty of the Great Plains at dawn and dusk. This, combined with avidly reading Louis L'Amour's stories on the Old West and other books of adventure, it is no surprise that the vocation of bookselling eventually revealed itself. Gene was introduced to books and history by caring and intelligent grade school and high school teachers who made history come alive. Social Studies, with an emphasis on American history, was Gene's major at Oklahoma State University. It is our hope that a book or piece of ephemera here at Gene W. Baade Books on the West will excite you and will either feed, or lead you into, that madness most exotic: bibliomania!
