"Made in the complete art-printing works of the Matthews-Northrup Co., Buffalo, N. Y." Gilt-stamped cloth with stamping in gilt of a locomotive on the front cover. Spine title printed in black. 335pp. Dozens of fine, high detail illustrations of Brooks locomotives. On the facing page of each one are the specifications of that locomotive. There are other illustrations, including a portrait of the founder, Horatio G. Brooks. Introductory, A Brief History and Description of the Works, Piston Valves, Catalogue Cipher Code, Numerical Code, and various tables and drawings. Index. Stamped in red ink on the title pages is "AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY." A 1" x 2 1/2" piece of the brown paper ffep is missing as it became attached to the front past down and remains "glued" there. Some narrow loss to part of the bottom of a prelim leaf. There are occasional page edge tears. Last few leaves with a small area of dampstain to the lower corner. Covers of this copy are in brown cloth and are in quite good condition with light wear to the edges. A good copy. Very, very scarce.
