LIST OF MAPS OF SEWER SYSTEMS AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL WORKS

Albany? State of New York? 1895. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #SHEL2027

Unrecorded portfolio unless found in town and state archives. This is a portfolio 0f 32 maps (complete set) of approved sewage plans for ten towns and villages in New York. The maps of varying sizes up to approx 40" x 40+" are folded to octavo size and gathered in a string-tied folder titled in gilt on the spine, STATE BOARD (device) HEALTH SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT. The approval dates printed on maps range from June 30, 1896 to December 31, 1896. Printed on the maps is approval information with printed signatures of officials signing off on them; also printed is/are firm(s) producing them who presumably are doing the work. I cannot be exact on the source information (construction firms) on each map because I have only opened 4-5 of the maps due to the tricky nature of opening particularly the huge maps and not tearing the folds as the paper is somewhat thin. The towns and villages represented are: Oneida, Nyack, City of Mount Vernon, (Vernon Park District), North Tarrytown, Tonawanda, New Hartford, Pelham Manor, Cooperstown, Geneva, Waverly, Clayton, Jamaica, Sandy Hill, Depew. We see that, at least in some cases, perhaps most, only certain sections of the town or village has plans, and several towns have more than one map. As to condition, here are but a few short tears in what did open, slight splitting at some folds and fold intersections. The cloth portfolio is vg+. For any collector, researcher, or city doing research on what appear to be original sewage systems in these ten towns, this is a gold mine of information. Some maps even have piping sizes. Streets and streams and canals, etc. are shown on most maps. An extraordinarily rare set of infrastructure maps.
