1902 MENOMINEE, MICHIGAN liquor license notice of tax paid

Big, showy, orange poster, 21 3/3" x 28". "NOTICE: This is to certify that Grassl Bros. has paid the tax in full to the thirtieth day of April, 1903, upon the business of selling or offering for sale SPIRITUOUS OR INTOXICATING LIQUORS OR MIXED LIQUORS BY RETAIR," etc. Lower down is stated that $500 tax was paid by Grassl Brothers on May 1, 1902. The notice is signed by C. C. Housen, County Treasurer and by F. S. (?) Norcross, County Clerk. Near the center of the poster is the statement, "Complaint may be made to any Justice of the Peace or Police Justice." Additional necessary information is printed, including law from "Public Acts of 1887." This great item has some mild general soiling or darkening with most soiling along top and bottom edges, but is quite uniform in appearance. Find A Grave says of Otto Grassl, born in 1868, "Long-time hotel and tavern keeper, with brother Wolfgang Grassl; hotel known as "Grassle House" of Menominee, company name: "Grassl Bros." The City of Menominee sits on the north side of the state line with Wisconsin, across the Menominee River from Marinette, and on the western shore of Green Bay. This is a true Michigan rarity.
