This is the true first edition of Roger Patterson's book, DO ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN OF AMERICA REALLY EXIST? I am the author of ROGER PATTERSON'S SNOWMAN BOOK, the definitive and only bibliography of Patterson's book, in which I identify in great detail all editions and printings of Roger's book. Franklin Press used the "First Edition" slug on all its published issues of Patterson's book, but only one issue is the actual first edition and this is what I am offering. Pictorial wraps. 169pp. Illustrated with maps and drawings by the author & others, & several photos. Former owner's address (Elk, Washington) and telephone number written in ink above title. The Patterson book is a seminal book, the first published book entirely devoted to Bigfoot or sasquatch in North America. Ivan Sanderson's 1961 book predates it & includes N. A. material, but was global in scope. The publication of Patterson's book was a watershed publication which helped usher in the era of modern research on the subject/creature/primate. It predated the Patterson-Gimlin film footage by a year. I grade books very conservatively, and this copy I grade good+ because of the moderate wear on the covers. The spine is complete. The condition of this title in the Franklin Press editions is somewhat notorious, having been read to death, often having a chip on a cover corner and having some spine loss. There has been a slight bit of professional cosmetic restoration to this copy. Lightly stamped just above the apeman head on the cover is the date of DEC 8 and what appears to be '68 (I applied a loop to it to see). This means that owner acquired this copy two years after it publication and stamped it. This is perhaps a little unusual as Roger was marketing the Second Edition by this time.
