Nehrling, Heinrich

North American Birdlife); Die Nordamerikansche Vogelwelt (12 color litho plates)

Milwaukee: George Brumder, 1891. Chicago Daily News. First Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. Item #SHEL1212

12 color lithographic plates from Die Nordamerikansche Vogelwelt (North American Birdlife). The book from which the plates are taken was published in Milwaukee in 1891 and was compiled/edited by ornithologist Heinrich Nehrling. Please note that I do not break good books of this kind when they are complete and in good condition. The plates offered are from a copy falling apart and missing many plates. Size: 11 5/8" x 8 3/4". The following disbound plates are included: I: six birds; II: Mockingbird; III: Catbird; IV: four birds ; V: seven birds; VI: Glue-gray Gnatcatcher; VII: Golden-crowned Kinglet; IX: Canon Wren (my personal favorite - a gorgeous print!); X: Prothonotary Warbler; XI: five birds; XII: six birds; XIII: eight birds. The German names are give for the birds. Included in the set is the title pages and what we presume is the dedication, as well as a leaf containing a poem, "Das Lied der neuen Welt." Very good condition each one with very little or no browning. A nice set suitable for framing.

Price: $78.00
