BLACK'S PICTURESQUE GUIDE TO THE TROSACHS: Loch Catrine, Loch Lomond, and Central Touring District of Scotland Including the Great Highland Routes to GLENCOE AND FORT-WILLIAM, LOCH AWE AND OBAN, TAYMOUTH AND ABERFELDY
Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, North Bridge, 1853. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #5032041
Just about every bookseller has a few books he wants to keep forever for himself, and this is one of mine. The first edition of Black's great guide to the Trosachs: Edinburgh: Adam & Charles Black, North Bridge. 1853. "Numerous Illustrations by Birket Foster." 12mo. Blind-stamped and gilt-stamped light green cloth (color-faded on spine). 212pp. Index. Engravings. 39 numbered pages of ads in the rear. Three maps facing the title: "Loch Lomond / Loch Katrine & / The Trosachs; "Guid to Sterling by Steam-Boat" (2 small panels). One large folding map in rear: The Tourist's Map of Scotland" which is intricately detailed. This map has a couple of tears which we have decided not to repair for the simple reason that if an institution or discriminating collector purchases this, what may be desired is truly professional conservation treatment. As you can tell by the photos, a signature or two have pulled somewhat from the binding. Again, it desires some professional repair. Slight fraying head and toe of spine. Board corners a little soft and only a tiny bit worn.
Price: $1,000.00
