COMMUNIST INTERROGATION INDOCTRINATION, AND EXPLOITATION OF PRISONERS OF WAR

Washington, D. C. Department of the Army, 1956. First Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. Item #5031060

Quarto printed wraps. 71pp. Illus. Department of the Army Pamphlet No. 30-101, May 1956. This is a sizable booklet, not really a "pamphlet." Honestly, this is a remarkable report on U. S. prisoners of war in North Korea during the Korean War, 1950-53. The first leaf is the Contents with, on the verso, the "CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES. Following this is a 1 page plus "INTRODUCTION" with remarkable information on the nature of imprisonment in the country. "American POWs were subjected to an well-planned and well-organized type of warfare with which few were familiar and for which few were prepared . . . aimed at undermining their loyalty to their country and their faith in the democratic way of life and, thereby, conditioning them to accept communism." Further, "The introduction of the 'idological' war in Korea created a new training requirement for the American fighting man. He must be trained to use knowledge and information as weapons." Contents: "BACKGROUND OF COMMUNISM AND COMMUNIST HANDLING OF PRISONERS OF WAR," "COMMUNIST TREATMENT OF PRISONERS OF WASR IN KOREA," "COMMUNIST INTERROGATION IN KOREA," 'CHARACTARISTICS OF INDOCTRINATION IN KOREA," "COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA IN NORTH KOREA," "RESISTANCE." The subsections cannot be provided here, but they reveal that this study provided a profound insight into North Korean communism which experts will probably say is most contemporary yet. This copy vg with some rust around the staples and a partially removed sticker on the back cover. There is an ownership signature at the top of the front cover. Very scarce outside of libraries.
