PISTOL PETE: Veteran of the Old West

London: ARCO, 1953. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Fair / Good. Item #2606014

1st printing of the British edition. Blue cloth. 278pp. Illustrated with photos. "My friend and partner, Eva Gillhouse, wrote this book. It was her idea and she did all the work. it's just the way I told it to her - it's all true - and I'll back her with both guns." (from verso of the dedication page). Frank Eaton, "Pistol Pete" was one of the most popular old-time cowboys in Oklahoma. He settled down outside of Perkins and was in demand at Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University) and other venues like the Cherokee Strip parades in Enid. While the details of this autobiography may be challenged at several points, it remains a great read and an important Oklahoma book. We grade this copy as "fair" because there is a 1/2" x 2" crescent-shaped whitish dampstain to the fore edge of the front cover; also acidic browning vertically to both blank free endpapers. The book is structurally sound. The dj is worn at edges and is price-clipped. Certainly a decent reading copy of the UK edition which is quite scarce.

Price: $45.00
