SISTER OF THE ROAD: The Autobiography of Box-Car Bertha
NY: Sheridan House. Reprint. Hardcover. Good / Fair. Item #2411041
Copyrighted 1937 by The Macaulay Company and published by Sheridan House. There is another 1937 edition published by Gold Label Books. Orange cloth. 314pp. Appendix. Quite a remarkable description of life "on the rails" for women before and during the Great Depression. "Box-Car Bertha" is in this telling a composite of women, not one person. The author give rather incredible and graphic insights in to how such women survived and sometimes almost thrived. Much on Socialism and petty crime. Good copy with wear to the corners and a remained mark across the top edge. Offset toning to the free endpapers. Chipped and otherwise moderately worn dj. Very scarce early printing.
