THE AMERICAN INDIAN: A Publication That Reflects the True Character of the American Indian

n.p. The American Indian, 1928. First Thus. Soft cover. Very Good. Item #2406043

November, 1928 newspaper, Vol 3, No. 2. 10 ¼" x 13 ¾". 16pp. Illustrated. Ads. News items (see Contents photo). On the front cover is the Haskell Football Squad, 1928, and on the inside cover the upcoming December 8th game with Tulsa is advertised. While most of the students/players came from Oklahoma, states also represented on the squad are Wisconsin, South Dakota, Washington (Toppenish), Nebraska, and Nevada. The tribal affiliation of each player is given; it's a splendid grouping of their nations' representatives. Haskell (now Haskell University), Lawrence, Kansas, opened its doors in 1884. From its website: "For more than 117 years, American Indians and Alaska Natives have been sending their children to Haskell, and Haskell has responded by offering innovative curricula oriented toward American Indian/Alaska Native cultures." Haskell describes itself today as "the premier tribal university in the United States." The fold of the covers of this single issue is split for most of its length. We are happy to do a limited mend with thin archival filmoplast tape if the buyer so desires, but otherwise will leave as is for a more professional repair it the buyer prefers. Other than this and a general "bend" to the copy and small edge chips on the bottom of the back cover, a vg copy. Very scarce.

Price: $251.00
