TO MY LOYAL FRIENDS AND THE PUBLIC..

Port Arthur: n.p., 1912. Soft cover. Collectible Good. Item #2306044

Two-page A. L. S. (autographer letter signed) hand-written in pencil by Mary Sweeney of Port Arthur, Texas, dated Sept. 3rd, 1912. Ms. Sweeney writes in an "Advertisment" that she has no ill will toward the people who removed her from being nominated for "Qween of the Labor Day Celebration by the 'Pile Drivers and Wooden Bridgmen and Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers' Local No. 125 of Port Arthur. She states that whe was elected (not just nominated apparently) overwhelmingly as "the official count of the votes show." She thanks her friends and supporters who expressed that "in their hearts I was their queen." She signed her name "Very Sincerely Mary Sweeney." When I acquired this letter of advertisement, I was told that Mary was removed from the contest because her father owned a bar. I have not verified this, but surely a tavern owner's daughter would be a favorite of the working class! Good condition. The writing, though a bit light in darkness of the lead, is easily readible. Some mild creases and a few short edge tears.
