CHOCTAW LINE GRAND EXCURSION 4th OF JULY FORT RENO TO SHAWNEE

n.p. Choctaw, Oklahoma, and Gulf RR, 1895. Original. Soft cover. Collectible Very Good. Item #xxx056

Dramatic original poster with period fonts large and small, and a decorated border, advertising a Fourth of July excursion from Ft. Reno (Oklahoma Territory) to Shawnee (OT). The section from OKC to Shawnee was to open for the first time on July 1. No year is given on the poster, but on the City of Shawnee website, the Choctaw Railroad was to be completed between Oklahoma City and Shawnee by July 4, 1895. This excursion was in all likelihood to celebrate this achievement and Independence Day in one fell swoop. This is a tall poster 8 1/2" x 17 3/4" with seven folds and is affixed by a former owns flat on 3/16" foam board. Quoting in part: "The (C,O, & G RR) will be completed as far east as SHAWNEE about July 1st. In order that every one may have the privilege of riding over the new road and seeing the enterprising CITY OF SHAWNEE! ..." "Addresses by eminent orators, music both vocal and instrumental, all kinds of parades, races, Indian dances, etc., are being prepared to amuse the guests. Also 25 beeves will be barbecued with all the trimmings..." "Tickets will be on sale July 4th good to return till July 6th." B. F. Dunn is stated as District Passenger Agent and W. E. Pollock Superintendent. There is a short, narrow 1 1/2" long x 1/8" chip on the upper right edge, and a portion of a circular cup stain on the lower right border. Occasional tiny blemishes elsewhere. Very good condition. We have located no copies of this poster, either original or facsimile, anywhere. Exceedingly rare.

Price: $1,500.00
