Duncan, who has worked with various indigenous groups in Canada, is a spectacular artist who has quite apparently mastered Northwest Coast First Nations designs. Most of the plates in this book are a creative combination of color and black and white drawings depicting the creatures both real and mythological in NW First Nations culture and history. They are accompanied by Duncan's poetry. On the Dedication page, Duncan expresses his well thought out view of non-indigenous artists who create indigenous and other cultural art outside the artist's own ethnic or racial profile. Fine copy, but please note that the dust jacket, which is complete, was clear-taped at the folds, and is wrinkled. Scarce.
