In 1821, Beebe had driven "a large quantity of beef-cattle and hogs ... from Chariton, on the Missouri River, to military posts on the upper Mississippi." Meeting a "party of Sac and Fox Indians, then in amity with the United States ... said Indians immediately commenced driving away and scattering said cattle and hogs ..."
