Tombstone, Arizona

PHOTOGRAPHS

N.p., N.d. Soft cover. Very Good+. Item #0505139

Not a book. A great group of five 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" unframed black & white glossy photos from Tombstone, Arizona, circa 1950. Digital images sent upon request. These photos were in a larger group of photos taken by an Army Air Force photographer. They show a true professional eye. An elderly, weather beaten gentleman in two of the images is unidentified, but he certainly captures the mythological essence of Arizona and the desert about mid 20th Century or earlier. One photo of him is a great looking waist-up portrait, & the other has him sitting on the window sill of an old building. The other photos include a "Welcome to Tombstone" sign with details about Boot Hill. There are two photos from Boot Hill: the grave of Mrs. Ah Lum (China Mary), & the graves & headboard of Tom McLowrey, Frank McLowrey, & Billie Clanton ("Murdered on the streets of Tombstone"). Note the variant spellings of the McLaurys & Billy Clanton! There is a Dec. 16 date for the death of "China Mary" on her headboard, instead of Dec. 6. On the McLaury photo, in the background are a couple of people on the horizon, one of them looking at what is apparently the Scheffelin monument. The condition of these photos is almost fine, with a small bump on one corner of a couple of them & one or two small thumb edge creases. These are perhaps unique original photos & will show beautifully when appropriately matted & framed. n.d.
